The casino was ordered by Melissa Horne, the minister for gaming, liquor control and casinos, to revise its code of conduct for responsible gambling. 

There is a new 24-hour break requirement for anyone who has gambled for more than 12 hours in a 24-hour period. People can only bet for a maximum of 36 hours per week. Therefore, members of Crown's responsible gaming team will have the authority to kick a consumer out of the casino. 

Additionally, if a player has been gambling for over three hours straight, the operator is obligated to enforce fifteen-minute rests. 

It is anticipated that Crown the casino will implement cooling-off periods. 
"I expect Crown to strive to be a global leader in the reduction of gambling harm - or lose their licence," Horne stated, expressing his expectations about the company's strategy. 

By the year's end, all electronic gambling machines will be required to use mandatory pre-commitment, according to Crown. The harm reduction safeguards, when coupled with the enhanced code of conduct, will be unparalleled by any casino of this magnitude. 

Crown Council 
Crown is being subjected to the lessons learnt from the Royal Commission on the Casino Operator and Licence, according to a statement from the government. 

The Commission's harsh condemnation of what it described as "illegal, dishonest, unethical and exploitative" actions was evident when it finished in October 2021. Despite the inquiry's conclusion that Crown should not immediately lose its licence owing to worries about the economic impact, the study concluded that the casino should not hold a casino licence in Victoria. 

New safer gaming duties to avoid gambling harm were one of several suggestions presented by the Commission. The administration has maintained that these new policies reflect its efforts to address the recommendation made in the report. 

The administration stated that 29 of the 33 suggestions contained in the study are either already in place or will be in the "coming months" for implementation. 

New protocols for dealing with customers showing "observable signs" of gambling harm, such as requesting breaks and information about harm programs, will also be distributed to casino employees. 

Union representatives, the operator, advocacy organisations, and damage researchers were among the many entities consulted by the government as it formulated the new course of action. 

Crown is given a six-month deadline to comply with the directive by updating its code. A fine of up to $100 million could be levied by the regulator in the event of a code violation. 

Rebranded slogans 
In a second order from Horne, gambling ads should no longer use the phrase "gamble responsibly" but rather new "evidence-based" warnings that should be more successful in lowering harm. 

Such innovative slogans as "You win some" and "Chances are, you're about to lose" are provided as examples. A greater loss occurs to you. 

"Once implemented, these world-class reforms will put Crown on a path to industry best practice by reducing and preventing gambling-related harm," stated Crown CEO Mike Volkert. The company has been working together with the Victorian government on these initiatives. Training team members and integrating the new code will now be our top priority.
